Application of Change Fees

For domestic tickets, change fees apply per customer per ticket and the level to be charged is as follows:

  • For the first change on a domestic ticket, the fee charged is the fee that was applicable on the date of original ticket issue.
  • For subsequent changes on a domestic ticket, the fee charged is the fee that was applicable on the date of the most recent reissue.

Collection of Fees

In all instances where a change fee applies, the ticket must be reissued and the change fee receipted separately from the ticket using EMD-S. The EMD-S must be:

  • Issued per customer
  • Raised at the time of reissue
  • Be cross referenced to the new ticket number
  • Show the GST component separately as ‘UO’

Goods and Services Tax (GST)

When an EMD-S is issued for a change being made to a domestic ticket, the GST component is shown separately as a ‘UO’ amount. Example:

  • A ticket change fee of $99 is shown on an EMD as $90 with $9UO
  • A name change fee of $99 is shown on an EMD as $90 with $9UO

Refer to the applicable fare rules in the GDS for further information on fare conditions and change fees.

Payment for Multiple Change Fees

When both a change fee and a name change fee apply, a single EMD-S can be issued. The EMD-S payment is a lump sum of the combined total of the change fees applicable. No breakdown is required except for the GST amount.

Further Information

When can Residual Value be Used?

The residual value of a ticket can be used to offset fare and ticket taxes and any remaining residual amount can be refunded through BSP. Qantas has enabled the use of Residual Value for Refund (RSVR) functionality with most GDS systems globally. RSVR allows the remaining amount on a ticket to be used as credit towards payment of change fees as well as fare/ticket taxes on a new ticket. If technically not possible in your GDS, you must receive payment for the change fee to enable issuance of the EMD-S.

If you require any further information on the use of RSVR please contact your GDS provider.

Should I Revalidate or Reissue my Customer’s Ticket?

In all instances where a change fee applies, the ticket must be reissued and the EMD receipted separately from the ticket using EMD-S. The ticket is not permitted to be revalidated. This applies to international and domestic tickets.

Where can I get Technical Support?

Refer to your GDS provider for information on GDS formats, functionality, specific entries and for instructions on how to issue an EMD.

What are the EMD Codes for Change Fees?

The change fee for EMD-S is identified using the following codes:

  • Service Code: ‘REIS’;
  • RFIC: D; and
  • RFISC: ‘98I’ (I for India not the number 1).

These codes may vary if you are using a GDS automated re-issue tool. Please refer to your GDS provider for further information.

Important! The EMD-S for a change fee must be receipted separately, and cross referenced to the new ticket number at the time of reissue.
