One of Australia’s hospitality newcomers, QT Hotels has quickly established itself as a major player in the local scene, thanks to its clever balance of hip urbanity and quirky luxury. The chain has hotels in Sydney, Canberra, Port Douglas, Falls Creek and, here, on the Gold Coast at Surfers Paradise. The location is perfect – just 50 metres from the beach and amid the buzz and bustle of the Gold Coast’s most well-known precinct. Inside, it’s retro surfer style-meets-Miami glamour. Think crisp white walls, bleached wood accents and liberal splashes of vibrant colour. Rooms are bright and airy and all offer views of either the ocean or the lush interior hinterland and Nerang River. Downstairs, there’s a see-and-be-seen pool and a hedonistic spa; overall, the attitude is lively, contemporary and young. Dining options match the mood (and are certainly good enough to attract the locals) – crowd-pleasing teppanyaki at Yamagen, Mexican-driven fare at the clubby Stingray, and sweet treats and that must-have morning caffeine hit at Fixx Café.
Surfers Paradise is the beating heart of the Gold Coast – it’s a heady blend of soaring skyscrapers, glitzy boutiques and buzzing nightlife. It’s just over 30 minutes by car from Coolangatta airport and the Gold Coast light rail connects this area with nearby precincts like Southport and Broadbeach. Shopping, restaurants, theme parks and, of course, the beach are all within easy distance.
