To buy an additional baggage allowance, enter your booking reference and last name, or if you're a Qantas Frequent Flyer, log in to your bookings.
If you think your bags will exceed our checked baggage allowance, you can purchase an additional baggage allowance online at qantas.com for lower rates than at the airport. If you're a Qantas Frequent Flyer you can also use your Qantas Points.
Note the following information about additional baggage allowance on Qantas flights:
- It's available on Qantas operated flights only.
- Excess baggage charges will apply at the airport for any baggage in excess of your allowance.
- For flights within Australia to/from the Americas only: For tickets issued on/before 25 March 2021, a heavy charge may apply at the airport if your checked baggage allowance is 23kg per piece and any piece exceeds that weight, determined by your class of travel and Frequent Flyer status. For tickets issued on/after 26 March 2021, checked baggage allowance increases to 32kg per piece, and no heavy baggage charge applies on international flights to/from North or South America. However, a heavy bag charge still applies to Australian domestic itineraries.
- No single item of checked baggage may exceed 32kg.
- Either add your additional baggage when you make your flight booking or visit manage booking after your flight is booked to purchase additional baggage. For weight based baggage allowances, you can purchase up to 35kgs per transaction up to a total of 100kgs. For piece based baggage allowances, you can purchase up to 5 additional pieces of baggage.

Domestic within Australia
Additional baggage allowance may be purchased on a piece basis.
A maximum of five additional pieces may be purchased in advance per flight. A maximum weight also applies for each additional piece, which is determined by your Qantas Frequent Flyer membership status:
- Non-Frequent Flyers and Bronze travelling in Economy - 23kg per piece. If your bag is over this weight (up to 32kg) a heavy charge will apply at the airport.
- Qantas Platinum, Gold, Silver Frequent Flyers and Qantas Club members travelling in Economy - 32kg per piece.
- All customers travelling in Business - 32kg per piece.
- Additional baggage carried over the pre-purchased allowance will be subject to excess baggage charges at the airport, regardless of Frequent Flyer status.
Airport excess baggage and/or heavy charges will apply at the airport for any pieces in excess of your checked baggage allowance and pre-purchased additional allowance, regardless of Frequent Flyer status.
International - other than the Americas
Additional baggage allowance can be purchased in increments of 5kg, 10kg, 15kg, 25kg or 35kg up to 100kgs in total per flight. 35kg is the maximum baggage that can be purchased in a single transaction.
Airport excess baggage charges will apply at the airport if the total checked baggage weight exceeds your checked baggage allowance and pre-purchased additional allowance, regardless of Frequent Flyer status.

For some travel agent bookings where we can't identify if your ticket has been issued in weight or piece, additional baggage allowance will be available by weight.
International - North and South America
A maximum of five additional pieces may be purchased in advance per flight. A maximum weight also applies for each additional piece, which is determined by your class of travel and Qantas Frequent Flyer status:
- For tickets issued on/before 25 March 2021, non-Frequent Flyer customer travelling in Economy and Premium Economy - 23kg per piece. If your bag is over this weight (up to 32kg) a heavy charge will apply at the airport.
- For tickets issued on/after 26 March 2021, baggage allowance increases to 32kg per piece, and no heavy bag charge applies on international flights to/from North or South America.
- For travel on/before 25 March 2021, Qantas Club, Silver and Gold Frequent Flyer members travelling in Economy and Premium Economy - 23kg per piece. If your bag is over this weight (up to 32kg) a heavy charge will apply at the airport.
- For travel on/after 26 March 2021, baggage allowance for Qantas Club, Silver and Gold Frequent Flyer members increase to 32kg per piece, and no heavy bag charge applies on international flights to/from North or South America.
- Platinum Frequent Flyers travelling in Economy and Premium Economy - 32kg per piece.
- All customers travelling in Business and First - 32kg per piece.
Airport excess baggage and/or heavy charges will apply at the airport for any pieces in excess of your checked baggage allowance and pre-purchased additional allowance, regardless of Frequent Flyer status.

For some travel agent bookings where we can't identify if your ticket has been issued in weight or piece, additional baggage allowance will be available by weight.
Additional baggage allowance charges
If you already have a booking, then simply log in to manage booking to check how much it will cost to pre-purchase additional baggage for your flight.
If you don’t have a booking yet, you can check the price and purchase additional baggage at the same time as you make your flight booking.

Charges listed below are for Qantas operated flights with a 'QF' flight number and vary depending on the destination. The carriage of baggage in excess of the checked baggage allowance is subject to space being available.
Where excess baggage charges are charged per piece rather than by weight, a heavy charge will also apply at the airport for any single piece of baggage exceeding the weight specified in your checked baggage allowance. No single item of checked baggage may exceed 32kg.

Disclaimer: ~ Qantas and QantasLink operated flights with a 'QF' flight number. Additional baggage allowance is not available for flights operated by another carrier (such as codeshare or interline flights) or if you are connecting to/from a flight operated by another airline within 24 hours of your Qantas operated flight. The additional baggage rates of the operating airline apply in these instances.
