Our approach
Since Qantas was founded in the Queensland outback in 1920, we have helped the communities in which we operate. From assisting Australians in times of natural disaster to providing an international platform to showcase the best our country has to offer, the Qantas Group continues to make a significant social and economic contribution.
We’re proud to serve regional communities, support tourism, champion diversity and reconciliation, and promote the best of Australia to the world.
Helping power the Australian economy
As the national carrier, the Qantas Group continues to have an integral role in the Australian economy. We remain a major employer and the biggest private promoter of local tourism.
In its most recent report, Deloitte Access Economics found that the Qantas Group had a $29 billion impact on the Australian economy. This included indirect economic impact adding up to $14.1 billion, or 0.6 per cent of Australian GDP, as well as $14.9 billion of tourism spending throughout the country.
Supporting Australian businesses
As the national carrier, we are proud to support Australian businesses by showcasing their products across the country and around the world. Each year, the Qantas Group spends more than $9.5 billion supporting more than 3,400 suppliers across Australia, many from regional Australia.
The Qantas Group has Australia's largest regional footprint by network, fleet and capacity connecting local communities and economies. We fly to more than 60 destinations across Australia.
Support for tourism
Helping the tourism sector is crucial to the recovery of the broader Australian economy. We're supporting this through marketing partnerships with federal, state and territory governments both internationally and domestically, in addition to our own extensive marketing and media strategy.
Championing reconciliation
At Qantas, we strive to reflect the Spirit of Australia.
A spirit that's over 60,000 years old and celebrates the knowledge and cultures of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. Our vision for reconciliation is a shared national identity that will be achieved through the social, economic and cultural inclusion of all First Nations Peoples.
As Australia’s national carrier, we have a clear role to play when it comes to reconciliation.
Qantas is dedicated to providing meaningful careers for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples, and diversifying our supplier base to include more Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander suppliers. We're committed to amplifying First Nations experiences, stories and culture and strengthening our reconciliation journey through community engagements.
We have a proud history of championing reconciliation, launching our first Reconciliation Action Plan (RAP) in 2007.
Guided by the foundations of the Qantas Group First Nations Strategy, Qantas launched our latest RAP in July 2025.

Working with communities
Qantas plays a key role in supporting Australian communities and giving back to those communities is an essential part of what we do. We are proud to partner with organisations who support people in times of need, champion diversity and help bring the best of Australia to the world.
Our partnerships focus on the areas of:
- giving back to our communities,
- championing belonging and inclusivity,
- supporting organisations who champion environmental sustainability,
- celebrating Australian arts and culture,
- building national pride through sport, and
- supporting causes important to our people.
We're committed to giving back and building positive sentiment within Australian communities, and engaging with Qantas employees through our partnership and grants programs.
Since 1991, Qantas customers have raised over $39 million for UNICEF through the Change for Good initiative. The funds have supported the world's most disadvantaged children in over 190 countries. Qantas crew support the program by collecting spare change inflight and by becoming program ambassadors.
Between 2007 and 2025, the StarKids partnership between World Vision and Jetstar has raised more than $12 million for children and families. StarKids raises funds through customer donations, collections on board our flights, public donations through the StarKids website and through workplace fundraising activities.

In November 2024, Qantas launched a new four-year partnership with Surf Life Saving Australia (SLSA) to promote water safety ahead of the summer season. This partnership builds on our shared commitment to the wellbeing and safety of Australians and visitors. At the heart of the collaboration was the launch of Beach Passport, a free, mobile-friendly online training tool developed by SLSA to equip beachgoers with essential water safety knowledge.

In March 2025, we signed a new three-year agreement with Cricket Australia extending our role as its official airline partner and expanding the partnership to become the overseas tour partner of both the Australian men’s and women’s teams. Having been Cricket Australia’s Official Airline Partner for more than a decade, this new agreement is an extension of our support for women’s cricket.

Across the Qantas Group, we know our employees are our greatest asset and acknowledge their dedication extends beyond their professional roles. Encouraging and supporting employee volunteering and donations helps support a culture of giving and community engagement. During 2025, the Qantas Side by Side employee grants and the Jetstar Giving the Dream program supported causes that are important to our people.
We celebrate diversity of thought and experience, and are proud to partner with the organisations that champion belonging and inclusion for all.
Qantas employees from across the Group once again participated in the annual Sydney Gay and Lesbian Mardi Gras parade and Fair Day, reaffirming our long-standing support of the LGBTQI+ community. As a partner of the Sydney Gay and Lesbian Mardi Gras, Qantas actively promotes equality and inclusion, by assisting with travel costs to attend the parade. For example, in Financial Year 2024/25, we provided flights for ACON’s First Nations Health Programs and Free Mum Hugs.
Qantas announced its partnership with Assistance Dogs Australia (ADA) to help make travel more accessible for people with disability and to educate broader audiences on the work of ADA. This partnership is part of our efforts to help to ensure that all customers can enjoy a seamless and comfortable travel experience.
For over 25 years, Qantas has partnered with Bangarra Dance Theatre to bring Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander culture and storytelling to Australian and global audiences.
Supporting regional Australia
The Qantas Group was founded more than 100 years ago in outback Queensland and we continue to play an important role connecting regional Australia.
Qantas has reduced fares for residents of selected regional cities in Queensland, Northern Territory and Western Australia through its discounted fares program By making more affordable air transport accessible in towns that are particularly remote, we’re providing peace of mind for residents booking their personal travel, including same-day flights, last minute trips and travel during peak periods.
In January 2020, the Qantas Group Pilot Academy was officially opened in Toowoomba, Queensland. It's part of our long-term strategy to ensure a talent pipeline for Qantas and the wider industry.
The Qantas Regional Grants program supports community organisations and projects directly benefiting regional Australia. The program, now in its fourth year, has distributed $7 million dollars in grants to more than 120 community initiatives focused on health, sport, education and family services across regional areas.
