When to visit

The climate of Mount Isa is suitably described as Tropical Continental. The maximum temperatures can reach well into the 40 degree scale in summer, and in the winter months dropping to 8 degrees with crisp mornings and evenings, and long daylight hours. Winter is a perfect time for camping, exploring and enjoying the famous Mount Isa Rodeo in August. In spring you’ll have warm temperatures with low humidity, so you can enjoy the great outdoors without the uncomfortable heat.

Mount Isa Airport (ISA).Opens external site in a new window It is an airport serving the western Queensland city of Mount Isa, Australia. It’s located approximately 8km from the city centre, with flights to Brisbane, Townsville and Cairns as well as several other regional centres.

Arriving in Mount Isa

The friendly staff at Mt Isa Airport will be ready to greet you when you arrive. The airport is the gateway to Outback Queensland and a superior travel experience to all visitors. Once you collect your bags, there are several transport options available to get to the town centre.

Getting into Mount Isa from Mount Isa Airport

Mount Isa Airport is located approximately 8km from the city centre. Taxis, rental cars, coaches and hotel shuttle services are available from the terminal, advance booking is recommended. 

Getting around Mount Isa

The best way to explore Mount Isa is by hire car. United Cab Company services the region, with taxi ranks at the Mount Isa Airport and outside Kmart in Atherton Street. Bus Queensland operates daily services between Mount Isa and Brisbane, providing another way to get around the town.
