Status Support

We understand Qantas Frequent Flyers have had fewer opportunities to earn Status Credits with reduced flying and travel restrictions. That’s why we’re helping eligible members to maintain their tier by providing a range of support including:

  • a one-off Status Credit Boost, the equivalent to 50% of the Status Credits required to keep your current status 
  • monthly Status Credit Support for members who have the least amount of time remaining at their current status (until September 2020)
  • the inclusion of Status Credits earned from a Loyalty Bonus towards reaching and keeping Platinum One status when chosen before 31 December 2021
  • the ability to earn Status Credits on selected Qantas Hotels Luxury Offers 
  • a 12-month Status Extension for eligible members (announced in March 2020).

Status Credit Boost

What is the Status Credit Boost?
From July 2020 to March 2021, Qantas will award eligible members a Status Credit Boost to make reaching and keeping status achievable during these unprecedented times. The Status Credit Boost is 50% of the required annual Status Credits needed to keep your status. 

Who's eligible for the Status Credit Boost?
All Platinum One, Platinum, Gold and Silver Qantas Frequent Flyer members with a status end date of March 2021 through to February 2022. This includes members on Lifetime Status, Status Hold, members who have received complimentary Gold membership, or complimentary Platinum membership from a Platinum One member.

How many Status Credits will I receive with the Status Credit Boost?
The Status Credit Boost is 50% of the required annual Status Credits needed to keep your status. The amount you receive depends on your status at the time the Boost is awarded. The table below outlines the different amounts by status:

What will the Status Credit Boost count towards?
The Status Credit Boost will contribute towards reaching and keeping Silver, Gold, Platinum and Platinum One and to further show our appreciation it will also contribute towards reaching Lifetime Silver, Lifetime Gold and Lifetime Platinum status. The Status Credit Boost will not contribute towards any other bonuses including the Loyalty Bonus, Platinum Bonus Reward and Platinum One Bonus Reward.

If I receive the Status Credit Boost, will it reset my Qantas Points expiry date?
No, as the Status Credit Boost isn't earned from paid travel, it won't reset your Qantas Points expiry date. To prevent your points from expiring, simply earn more Qantas Points or use some for a Reward.

When will I receive the Status Credit Boost?
The Status Credit Boost will be credited based on your status end date. Members who have a March - June 2021 status end date, will receive the Boost from 14 July 2020 (please allow 72 hours for them to appear on your account). For all other members who have a status end date of July 2021 through to February 2022, you will receive the Boost in the first month of your new membership year. A confirmation email will be sent to your preferred email address on your Qantas Frequent Flyer account when they’re awarded as per the below table:

Where can I see my status end date?
You can view your membership status end date on your digital card on the Qantas App. Simply click on ‘My QFF’ and the digital card icon top right hand corner of the screen. Please note, the Membership Year end date displayed on the qantas.com ‘Status Activity’ page may not reflect your 12-month Status Extension until the start of your new Membership Year. 

Do I need to register to receive the Status Credit Boost?
No, we will automatically credit your account with the Status Credits. We will take care of everything and there is no need to call the contact centre.

Can I request to change the date for when the Boost is awarded to my account?
No, the Status Credit Support is automatically awarded and as a result date changes are unable to be made.

Where will I be able to see the Status Credit Boost?
You will be able to view the Status Credit Boost on your activity statement and updated Status Credit balance when accessing your account on Qantas.com or in the Qantas App.

How long will the Status Credits be valid for?
The Status Credits will be valid until the end of the membership year in which they are awarded.

To keep my current status, do I still need to reach the four flight minimum rule? 
Yes. In addition to earning the required Status Credits you will need to take a minimum of four Eligible Flight Segments (where a QF, JQ, 3K or GK flight number is on the ticket) in each Membership Year to reach or keep Silver, Gold or Platinum status. 

Once I receive the Status Boost, how many Status Credits do I need to keep my status?
The number of Status Credits required varies based on status. The below table outlines the number of additional Status Credits and eligible Qantas Group flights required to keep status for the Membership Year that you receive the Status Credit Boost in.

How many Status Credits do I need to reach a higher status?
The number of Status Credits required to reach a higher status has not changed and varies by tier.  The minimum eligible Qantas Group flight rule also applies.  Status Credits received as part of the Status Credit Boost count towards reaching higher status and will make it easier to achieve for the Membership Year that you receive the Status Credit Boost in.

Will the Status Credit Boost contribute to the Qantas Status Credit earn requirement for Platinum One?
Yes. The Status Credit Boost will contribute towards the Qantas Status Credit earn requirement to reach and keep Platinum One.

 

Status Credit Support

What is the Status Credit Support for?
The Status Credit Support is for those members who have been impacted the most by the travel restrictions. From July to September 2020, Qantas is awarding eligible members the Status Credit Support to make sure keeping your status is still achievable during these unprecedented times.

Who's eligible for the Status Credit Support?
All Platinum One, Platinum, Gold and Silver Qantas Frequent Flyer members with a status end date of March through to August 2021. If you reach a higher status subsequent to 14 July 2020 and your new status end date is after August 2021, you will not be eligible for Status Credit Support for every month until September 2020. 

Why isn’t Qantas providing the Status Credit Support to everyone?
Qantas understands that some members were impacted more than others due to Coronavirus. This includes members who started their membership year in March 2020 and for the first few months of their membership year, Qantas and partner airlines did not operate scheduled services so their ability to earn Status Credits was limited. Whereas, members who start their membership year later in 2020 or in 2021 will have greater opportunity and more time to earn as airlines including Qantas increase flights. 

How many Status Credits will I receive with the Status Credit Support?
The Status Credits you receive will depend on your status at the time the Status Credits are awarded. The table below outlines the different monthly amounts by status:

What will the Status Credits from the Status Credit Support count towards?
The Status Credit Support will contribute towards reaching and keeping all tiers as well as reaching Lifetime status. The Status Credit Support will not contribute towards any of the bonuses including the Loyalty Bonus, Platinum Bonus Reward and Platinum One Bonus Reward.

If I receive the Status Credit Support, will it reset my Qantas Points expiry date?
No, as Status Credit Support isn't earned from paid travel, it won't reset your Qantas Points expiry date. To prevent your points from expiring, simply earn more Qantas Points or use some for a Reward.

When will I receive the Status Credit Support?
The Status Credit Support for eligible members will be credited on a monthly basis from July 2020 to September 2020 based on your status end date. Members who have a March - June 2021 status end date will receive their Status Credit Support (backdated to April 2020 where applicable) by 22 July 2020. For members who have a status end date of July and August 2021, you will receive a confirmation email in August and/or September sent to your preferred email address on your Qantas Frequent Flyer account when they’re awarded as per the below table.

Loyalty Bonus changes

What changes are being made to the Loyalty Bonus?
Status Credits earned through a Loyalty Bonus will count towards both reaching and keeping Platinum One status. Members have to be awarded and have to select the Status Credit option before 31 December 2021 in order for them to count towards reaching and keeping Platinum One. All other terms and conditions of the Loyalty Bonus remain unchanged.

Who's eligible?
Any Qantas Frequent Flyer member who earns a Loyalty Bonus and chooses the 50 Status Credits award between 14 July 2020 and 31 December 2021.

My membership anniversary date is in March 2021 and I just earnt a Loyalty Bonus in May 2020. Will the Status Credits count towards reaching and keeping Platinum One status?
Yes. If you are currently in the last 12 months of your membership year, any Status Credits earned through a Loyalty Bonus will count towards reaching and keeping Platinum One status.

If I select the Status Credits with my Loyalty Bonus what will they count towards?
The Status Credits will count towards reaching and keeping all tiers (Silver, Gold, Platinum and Platinum One) as well as Lifetime status. In line with the existing terms and conditions, they will not count towards any other bonus including the Platinum Bonus Reward, Platinum One Bonuses and other Loyalty Bonuses.

How long do I have to select my Loyalty Bonus reward once I earn a Loyalty Bonus? 
In line with the existing terms and conditions, the Loyalty Bonus reward must be selected within 90 days from the date a member achieves the Loyalty Bonus. Once selected the reward can't be changed.

Earning Status Credits on hotel bookings

Who’s eligible to earn Status Credits from Qantas Hotels?
All Qantas Frequent Flyer members who book an eligible Qantas Hotels Luxury Offer between 14 July - 31 August 2020 for stays between 14 July 2020 - 31 March 2021 are eligible to earn Status Credits. 

What will the Status Credits earned from Qantas Hotels Luxury stays count towards?
The Status Credits earned from eligible Qantas Hotels Luxury stays will contribute towards reaching and keeping all tiers and will also contribute toward reaching Lifetime status. The Status Credits will not contribute towards any of the bonuses including the Loyalty Bonus, Platinum Bonus Reward and Platinum One Bonus Reward.

When will I receive the Status Credits?
The Status Credit for eligible members will be awarded at least eight weeks after check-out. The Status Credits will be credited to Members' accounts based on the check out date of the stay. Status Credits are only awarded to the Qantas Frequent Flyer member for the name the reservation was made under.

Is there a maximum number of Status Credits I can earn from Qantas Hotels?
Yes. The total maximum number of Status Credits a member can earn from Qantas Hotels Luxury Offers is 125.

If I book an eligible stay in someone else's name, will I receive the Status Credits?
No. The Status Credits are only awarded to the Qantas Frequent Flyer member under which the reservation was made.

If I use a combination of Qantas Points and money, am I eligible to earn Status Credits?
Yes. If you book an eligible Qantas Hotels Luxury Offer and pay using a combination of Qantas Points and money, you'll be eligible to earn Status Credits.

If my check-in date is before the offer ends, however the check out date is after the offer ends, will I still be eligible to earn Status Credits?
Yes. If you book an eligible Luxury Offer and check-in prior to 31 March 2021, you'll still be eligible for Status Credits regardless of the check-out date.

12-month Status Extension

When will my status be extended?
The extension will be actioned in two phases - if your membership year ends:

  • between March and June 2020, it will be automatically extended by 27 March 2020; and
  • between July 2020 and February 2021, it will be automatically extended by 9 April 2020.

The processing date for the 12 month status extension cannot be changed.

Once Qantas has extended your status, you will receive a confirmation email sent to your preferred email address on your Qantas Frequent Flyer account. You will also then be able to view your new status expiry date on the digital membership card in the Qantas App. To view your card in the Qantas App, click on ‘My QFF’ and then the card icon top right hand corner of the screen. The status extension expiry date will not reflect on qantas.com status page until the start of your new Membership Year. Your new extended status expiry date will not reflect on qantas.com status page until the start of your new Membership Year.

What does status extension mean?
To provide peace of mind when it comes to your Frequent Flyer status, Qantas will ensure that eligible Qantas Frequent Flyer members with a membership year anniversary date between March 2020 and February 2021 will  automatically retain their current status, even if they have not already retained in their own right.

Who's eligible for complimentary 12-month status extension?
All Platinum One, Platinum, Gold and Silver Qantas Frequent Flyer members who have not earned the required Status Credits to retain in their own right. This includes members on Status Hold, members who have received complimentary Gold membership, or complimentary Platinum membership from a Platinum One member.

Am I eligible to get my status extended even if I have not reached the four flight count minimum rule?
Yes, the four Qantas Group flight rule will be waived for members who’ve not earned the required Status Credits to retain status in their own right.

Do I need to register to get my status extended?
No, we will automatically extend your status by the dates below. We will take care of everything and there is no need to call the contact centre.

Where can I see my Membership Year end date?
You can view your Membership Year end date on your current membership card. If you don’t have a membership card you can also view your Membership Year end date at qantas.com via My Account or the Qantas App.

Once logged in at qantas.com simply navigate to the ‘Status Activity’ page. Your Membership Year end date is displayed next to your Status Credit information. If using the Qantas App simply click on ‘My QFF’ and ‘Learn More’.

Remember, your new extended status expiry date will not be reflected on qantas.com status page until the start of your new Membership Year.

What happens if I've already retained my status, will it still be extended by 12 months?
No. If you’ve already retained your status then you will automatically enjoy your current benefits for the rest of your Membership Year for another 12 months. Status extension will not apply.

Is Qantas providing assistance to members to help them reach a higher Status?
No. The Qantas status extension is to assist members to retain their current status and benefits if they have not earned the required Status Credits to retain. We will continue to review the impacts of Coronavirus and assess how we can continue to support our members, and keep Status Credits within reach through a series of offers from our program partners.

Is it still possible to move up to a higher status level (e.g. Gold to Platinum) if I earn the required Status Credits?
Yes. Once you earn the required Status Credits and travel on at least four Qantas Group flights within a Membership Year, your status will be upgraded in line with the program terms and conditions.

When Qantas extends my status as part of this change, will my Status Credits reset to zero?
No. Your annual Status Credit total will only reset to zero at the end of your current Membership Year. The 12 month status extension will not change this.

Can my current Status Credits be carried forward to my next Membership Year?
No. Any Status Credits you have earned so far in this Membership Year will reset at your current Membership Year end date.

Will the status extension impact the Loyalty Bonus and other Bonus Rewards calculations?
No. There’s no change to the calculation and awarding of any Bonus Rewards that are earned. You will continue to receive Bonus Rewards during your membership year if the eligibility criteria is met.

Will I receive a new membership card?
Once we have actioned the extension, you will see your new status expiry date on your digital membership card in the Qantas App. To view it in the Qantas App, please click on ‘My QFF’ and then the card icon top right hand corner of the screen. Due to the current environment, Qantas Frequent Flyer has temporarily suspended sending physical membership cards.

Can I request a new physical card with the new status expiry date?
No. Qantas has temporarily suspended sending physical membership cards.

Can I continue to use my existing Qantas Travel Money card?
Yes. Your existing Qantas Travel Money card can be used until you receive and activate your new card. Your new membership card will be sent to you during your membership anniversary month.

If I have earned the required Status Credits to retain my status in my own right, when will I receive my new card?
As per standard processing, you will receive your new membership card in the last month of your current Membership Year.

My membership anniversary date is in March 2020, so while the extension will take my membership year to March 2021, I still may not be able to fly for much of this year.  Will Qantas consider additional support to help me retain next year?
The situation is constantly evolving, as is our response. We will review whether additional support is required closer to the time.

General

Is it still possible to move up to a higher status level (eg Gold to Platinum) if I earn the required Status Credits?
Yes. Once you earn the required Status Credits and travel on at least four eligible Qantas Group flights within a Membership Year, your status will be upgraded in line with the program terms and conditions.

Can my current Status Credits be carried forward to my next Membership Year?
No. Any Status Credits you have earned so far in this Membership Year will reset at your current Membership Year end date.
