Pets are part of the family, so it’s natural to want to travel with your furry friends. Find out how to get your pet safely to your destination.

We understand your pet is an important member of the family and, just like people, pets need to travel as quickly and comfortably as possible.
On Australian domestic flights, you can now book your pet travel at the same time as you book your own.
If you want your pet to travel on your flight, we suggest you make your pet's booking prior to making your own flight booking.
Only Service Dogs can be carried into the passenger cabin of the aircraft.
If you've already booked your flight and have your booking reference number ready, you can check availability on your flight for your pet. Note that the number of pet containers allowed on an aircraft is limited.
Qantas Freight also offers a service for unaccompanied pet and animal travel.
If your pet is travelling internationally or within 24 hours of departure, please call Qantas Freight on 13 12 13 within Australia. If calling from outside Australia, please contact your local Freight office.
When your pet is travelling within Australia on the same flight as you, please book your pet travel online.

Pet reservations hours
Monday to Friday: 9am to 6pm, Australian eastern standard time (AEST).
Qantas Domestic Freight is closed on 25 December.
Important information about the temporary suspension of selected pet breeds.
|Fila Brasileiro, Dogo Argentino, American Pit Bull Terrier, Perro De Presa, Canario and Presa Canario, kittens and puppies under eight weeks of age and animals that demonstrate aggressive behaviours or show excessive chewing or cage destruction.
||Not permitted on any Qantas or QantasLink service.|
|Brachycephalic (snub nosed) dogs (full bred only), Bulldog (French, British or English), Pug, Pekingese, Boston Terriers and Japanese Chin.
||Permitted on flights no longer than 5 hours in length and no more than 2 sectors per journey. Must travel in an approved crate that is twice the usual the minimum required size for increased air flow and comfort. Visit Qantas Freight for further information.
May be permitted on flights greater than 5 hours (international only) where a Form of Acknowledgement and Indemnity (PDF) is completed by the owner and submitted on lodgement with the Shipper’s Certificate (PDF) and other transport papers.
|American Staffordshire terrier.||Pets under 12 weeks of age are permitted to travel on all sectors provided it is lodged in an approved wooden dog crate. A plastic dog crate not permitted. If 12 weeks and over, lodgement can only be made by a pet transport company in a CR-82 airline approved guard dog crate. No other crates permitted. Please contact an animal transport company for assistance.
|Guard or racing animals, animals that are a part of the police/defence forces and fresh water live fish (aquarium type).

|Specialised zoological, native or other exotic pets.

Qantas does not accept
- any live animal shipments for cosmetic or industrial chemical research/testing purposes
- wire crates for animal travel on any service.
Quarantine regulations apply for international destinations and for Western Australia, Tasmania, Lord Howe Island, Norfolk Island, and Thursday Island. Our Qantas offices and other freight offices will provide general information on the carriage of birds, cats and dogs. For specific information, contact the applicable state or country quarantine office.
We reserve the right to refuse carriage of a pet for any reason, including:
- safety or security reasons
- in order to comply with applicable laws, regulations or orders
- non-compliance with our directions by the person lodging or travelling with the pet
- animals showing signs of stress or illness
- animals showing aggression or of an overt aggressive nature
- animals showing excessive signs of chewing or cage destruction at time of lodgement
- if the container requirement does not meet the specifications of the IATA Live Animal Regulations.
