When to visit
With more than 320 days of sunshine each year, Townsville is an ideal destination for a tropical holiday in North Queensland. The best time to visit Townsville is in the dry season between May and September with warm days and cool evenings. Summertime the days are very hot and muggy with a tropical climate and also the wet season. Sailing festivities take place at the end of August each year at the Magnetic Island Race Week.

Arriving in Townsville
The staff at Townsville Airport will greet you when you land. From there is easy to make the 5km trip to Townsville city centre.
Getting into Townsville from Townsville Airport
It’s easy to make the short trip to Townsville city from the airport with multiple transport options available. Take a taxi or ride share from the terminal, pre-book a shuttle service or rent a car from the car hire providers.
Getting around Townsville
Townsville’s city-centre attractions around Flinders Mall and the Strand are easily navigable on foot. Sunbus, operating primarily out of Flinders Mall, runs local public transport and puts on shuttles during special events. Car and passenger ferries operate to Magnetic Island and the best way to explore the surrounding region and national parks is by hire car or an organised tour.
