When to visit

Best time to visit Noumea

The best time to visit Noumea is during the months of May, June, September, and October with great weather and less crowds. These months are the ideal time for water sports, sightseeing and sampling local oysters. Temperatures range between 19 °C -26 °C. The warmest months are from December to January with more humidity and an average temperature of 26 °C -30 °C. If visiting in July and August, the coolest months you can enjoy the French festivals.

Arriving in Nouméa

The friendly staff at Nouméa Airport will greet you when you land and assist with your travel needs. Once you collect your bags from the arrivals area, there are a few transport options available to get you on your way. 

Getting into Nouméa from Nouméa Airport

Various transport options are available to get to the town of Noumea from the airport. A regular pus service runs to town, along with private shuttle services, coaches, taxis and hotel transfers. It’s possible to hire a car to see all that you wish during your stay.

Getting around Nouméa

You can explore most of the city on foot or by hopping aboard one of the popular tourist trains that follow routes taking in all the major sights. If you want to get from one neighbourhood to another, you can call a taxi, travel on the Karuïa Bus, or rent a moped or a bike. Nouméa is quite a hilly city, so you’ll need to be fairly fit to go sightseeing by bike. A fun way is to take a water taxi to head off the main island.

What is the main airport called?

Los Angeles International Airport (LAX)Opens external site in a new window, commonly referred to as LAX, is the primary international airport serving Los Angeles and its surrounding metropolitan area. Los Angeles International Airport is the busiest and largest airport on the US west coast. It's located 33km from the city centre and 50km from Disneyland. LAX operates 24 hours a day and is open from 5 a.m. to midnight.

Baggage allowance

All passengers flying from Los Angeles are allocated checked baggage. If you require extra luggage, you can purchase an additional baggage allowance online before departure. 

Checking in

Customers travelling from Los Angeles can check in online up to 24 hours in advance or check in at the terminal by visiting a kiosk or desk.

 This offer applies to Qantas operated flights for the following dates: Australian Domestic: booked between 21 May 2020 and 30 April 2022, for travel between 12 June 2020 and 30 April 2022. Trans-Tasman: booked between 15 October 2020 and 30 June 2022, for travel between 16 October 2020 and 31 December 2022. International: booked between 25 February 2021 and 30 June 2022, for travel between 1 November 2021 and 31 December 2022. If you decide to change the date of your travel, we'll waive the change fee. You'll need to change your flight before your scheduled date of departure and select a new travel date within 12 months of your original booking date. When you're ready to rebook, you'll also need to cover any fare increase for your new flight, if applicable. For all changes, your applicable Fare Rules and the Qantas Conditions of Carriage apply.
