If you love music, chances are you already have a favourite music festival, whether it’s Glastonbury, Coachella, Ibiza or even Montreux Jazz Festival. But for a chance to go off the beaten track and experience the best a specific country’s music scene has to offer, it’s hard to go past Red Bull Music Academy, which this year makes its home in Paris.

A multi-disciplinary, cross-platform experience involving lectures, studios, live shows, exhibitions and master classes, Red Bull Music Academy is hard to encapsulate in a single sentence, but much easier to engage with. The event, which changes cities each year, is famed for transforming its base into a thriving hotbed of culture.

For the next month, some of the best in the world (and France) will be performing across Paris’s top clubs and galleries. If you’re in the city for a few days, chances are there’s a show happening.

Highlights of this year’s list include fêted Kanye West producer, Hudson Mohawke; Nicolas Godin (of legendary French group, Air, popularly known for their soundtrack to “The Virgin Suicides”); German techno pioneers Modeselektor; and twin French house legends Laurent Garnier and Philippe Zdar. We’re not sure about you, but to us, this sure beats waiting in line to see the Mona Lisa.
