It’s Negroni Week! *clink*

The Negroni is a superior cocktail; it's simple yet sophisticated and always delicious. So it’s only fitting that the classic cocktail has its very own celebratory week – drinks this good deserve more than one night.

Now, it wasn’t a wise cocktail-sipping god who designated June 6-12 Negroni Week; it was launched in 2013 by Campari and Imbibe magazine to raise money for charitable causes around the world.

Here’s how it works: you buy a Negroni at a participating bar, restaurant or retailer and they donate $1 to a worthy cause. You know what this means, right? You’re doing the world good by shouting yourself, or your lucky friends, a Negroni cocktail.

Wondering what exactly a Negroni is? Take note: it’s one part gin, one part Campari and one part vermouth, served with a twist of orange peel. The taste is tart, citrusy, dry and slightly bitter.

Initially, about 100 bars and restaurants took part in Negroni Week. This year, there are more than 6000 participating venues. Australia has some excellent spots to sample the delightful Negroni – here are our top picks.
