Andy Warhol | Ai Weiwei Opens at the NGV

Two of the most significant artists of the 20th and 21st centuries – Andy Warhol and Ai Weiwei – have transformed the NGV with a blockbuster summer exhibition.
Cementing the development of the NGV’s contemporary art program, Andy Warhol | Ai Weiwei, occupies the entire ground floor of the gallery with more than 300 pieces, including major new commissions, masterpieces and rarely seen works.
Expect some of Warhol’s most celebrated works, including portraits, paintings and silk-screens such as Campbell’s Soup, Mao and Three Marilyns; early drawings and illustrations from the 1950s; sculptures and installations including Brillo Boxes (1964); films such as Empire (1964); music and previously unseen work. The exhibition also features more than 500 Polaroids documenting Warhol’s social world.
A suite of major commissions by Ai Weiwei is premiered, including a new installation from the Forever Bicycles series, alongside painting, sculpture, photography and film from the past four decades.
Andy Warhol | Ai Weiwei opens at the NGV on December 11.
