5 Ways the New iPhone Will Change the Way You Travel

Apple has just revealed its brand-new iPhone family in a typically lavish event in the US. It was expected by many to be a rather simple upgrade cycle, but Apple has surprised pundit and consumer alike with the depth of changes to the iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 plus. Here are some of the ways the new iPhone will change the way you travel.

Bigger battery

Both the iPhone 7 and the iPhone 7 Plus feature the best battery life ever for an iPhone model. (At least, according to Apple – we always recommend paying attention to independent tests.)

Short-hop travellers who’ve become accustomed to carrying a smartphone charger even on daytrips might soon find themselves getting a full day (or longer) from the iPhone 7, even if it has been a work-intensive one.

More cables?

One of the more controversial changes has been the removal of the headphone jack, something many people weren’t expecting to see until next year. While anyone already using Bluetooth headphones, or anyone happy to pay up for the new Apple AirPods, will be fine, people still using traditional headphones will need an adaptor to get their 3.5mm jack plugged into the iPhone’s Lightning port. You’ll get one with your new phone, but some people won’t appreciate another bit of cabling to carry around. Even if you do make the move over to Bluetooth cans, they’ll also need a charger to keep them juiced up.

Water and dust resistance

The days of treating your iPhone like it’s a Fabergé egg might be coming to a close, with the new iPhone 7 and 7 Plus both designed to be water- and dust-resistant. The phone are rated to IP67, which means that while you may not want to strap one on for a swim, they’ll be more than capable of surviving the odd spill when you’re on the road or even a day at the beach if you’re having a holiday.

An even better camera

Shutterbugs who can’t get enough of travel snaps will definitely want to take a look at the iPhone 7 Plus. While the standard iPhone 7 will sport a 12-megapixel rear camera, the Plus will actually feature dual cameras. In addition to that same 12-megapixel lens, the Plus will have a second 12-megapixel telephone camera. You’ll even be able to use both together for some very interesting depth of field effects.

More power

Business travellers will appreciate the brand-new A10 Fusion processor that Apple is calling the “most powerful chip on any smartphone”. The new processor promises to be 40 per cent faster than the A9 in the iPhone 6, but the quad-core design also allows for better handling of specific tasks. High-performance tasks such as video editing are handled differently to high-efficiency tasks such as browsing and this means better speeds for both – and it’s what contributes to that great battery life as well.
