SkyCity Hotel Auckland – Hotel Review
If staying close to the action tops your list of property priorities, choose SkyCity Hotel Auckland. Part of the same complex as the pulsing SkyCity Casino and sky-scraping Sky Tower – both in the heart of the city's Downtown – this comfy hotel is a dependable option for travellers. Read on for the full review.
Don’t assume it’s just for high rollers, either. Families are more than considered, with spacious suites perfect for groups, as well as on-site babysitting and a spa for tired parents.
Where is SkyCity Hotel Auckland?
In the same complex as Sky Tower in the city’s Downtown (you’ll never lose your hotel!). It’s just under 30 minutes by car from Auckland Airport.
What’s near SkyCity Hotel Auckland?
The obvious attraction is Sky Tower, the needle-like building that soars 328 metres into the Auckland sky. It’s a case of choosing your own adventure at the top: some opt to admire the incredible views, others select the more terrifying SkyJump, a “BASE-jumping by wire” adventure.
Culture buffs should head a little further east (seven minutes by foot, to be exact) to Auckland Art Gallery Toi o Tāmaki, where a staggering 15,000 works span international greats such as Frida Kahlo and Kura Te Waru Rewiri, a renowned local Maori artist.
Rich greys populate the soft furnishings of the simple, contemporary rooms, the obvious highlight of each being the cloud-like California king that waits in the centre of the room. Each room has a daybed for lazing, as well as a full-size desk for remote working; Suites have an extra layer of luxury with separate living spaces, bathtubs and complimentary late check-out (12pm). Interconnecting rooms can be booked for families.
Restaurants and bars
(Almost) every appetite is accounted for in the SkyCity complex. Kids will be enthused by the juicy burgers at Andy’s, while the parental contingent will appreciate the gourmet options in exceptional sushi at MASU by Nic Watt or the hearty hatted dishes at The Sugar Club. The only non-negotiable? Pairing anything you order with a perfectly chilled glass of Perrier-Jouët Champagne, a favoured bottle of the hotel.
Travel for work
Events are a cinch for SkyCity, where spaces range from balcony-adorned meeting spaces to a full-scale conference facilitites. Beverage and catering packages are available, as is access to AV equipment. Thanks to full-size desks and wi-fi, in room working is also easy.
Spa and gym
SkyCity Hotel Auckland has its own gym on-site. Across the road, The Grand by SkyCity houses East Day Spa, an ambient space dedicated to relaxation. There’s seemingly everything on the menu here, from beauty treatments to massages and restorative hydrotherapy, courtesy of the Vichy shower.
SkyCity Group has a long-term commitment to sustainability, resulting in an 81 per cent reduction in waste sent to landfill since 2015 and a zero carbon status as a result of an offset scheme. Bringing your electric car? You’re set: there are EV chargers in the hotel’s carpark.
Common areas are accessible to travellers with disabilities and there are a number of accessible rooms, inclusive of features for guests with visual and hearing impairments.
