A grand family mansion transformed into a characterful 40-room design hotel in Santiago’s historic heart, Hotel Magnolia fuses the Art-Deco glamour of the 1929 building with the eclectic character of the Chilean capital today. A stylish restaurant, intimate lobby bar and sunny rooftop terrace make this friendly hotel much more than a place to sleep, though ambient lighting and beds like clouds all but guarantee you’ll drift off easily.
Where is Hotel Magnolia?
On a leafy street just steps from historic hilltop park, Cerro Santa Lucía, the hotel’s El Centro district location is an easy stroll from must-see cultural institutions including the Museo Nacional de Bellas Artes, as well as the bars and eateries of hip Lastarria. The 17 kilometre drive from the airport takes around 15 minutes by taxi, and there are two metro stations within 500 metres walk from the front door (Bellas Artes on the green line, and Santa Lucia on the red line).
Forty modern rooms include a signature suite with its own wine cellar, three junior suites, 19 deluxe rooms, eight deluxe twin rooms and nine superior rooms. Rooms on the lower three floors feature stained-glass windows, while the three sixth-floor deluxe rooms have balconies. All rooms come with coffee machines, mini fridges, wifi and complimentary breakfast.
Restaurants and bars
Rates include a breakfast buffet at the contemporary lobby-level Magnolia Restaurant, which is also open for lunch and dinner. A bistro menu is served on the rooftop along with drinks including signature pisco concoctions; try the Citrus Pistón with Waqar pisco, lemon juice, orange liqueur and tonic.
Travel for work
Most but not all of the superior and deluxe rooms have a desk, so check before booking. There are no formal business facilities, however the lobby-level library offers a quiet place to work and the wine cellar off the main restaurant can be reserved for business meetings or events.
Spa and gym
Pack your workout gear for visits from this month, at the newly opened on-site gym. A spa is also in development, with in-room treatments available in the meantime.
