The W is located deeper into the SoMa area than many other hotels, which means it’s closer to the galleries and museums, practically next door to SFMOMA (currently closed for renovation). This lends itself to the hotel’s interest in art and culture, an interest reflected in the decor. The W is a gathering place for art exhibitions, film screenings, fashion and music events. It feels contemporary, fresh and luxurious and has a high-energy atmosphere; the bars (there are several) are lively at most times of the day and its restaurant, Trace, focuses on local and sustainable produce. It’s a great meeting spot.
The W has extensive event spaces, business amenities, valet parking, fitness centre and a Bliss Spa. There is some free wi-fi but you pay in your room.
SoMa (South of Market) is a vibrant part of San Francisco close to galleries, museums, downtown and convention centres. It also has its share of San Francisco’s homeless and disenfranchised.
