Steven Alan is a New York designer but for us a personal favourite for stylish, non-preppy American clothing. There is a suggestion of 1970s influence and vintage patterns and fabrics but the designs are stylish, contemporary and practical. Once you visit his Hayes Valley store you won’t be able to resist checking out Rand + Statler (425 Hayes Street) or Azalea Boutique (411 Hayes Street). You might also want to visit French label Cotélac and its sister brand Acote (597 Hayes Street).
