A gathering point of everything (and everybody) in hip and happening Istanbul, Souq Karaköy is a wonderful urban market. Housed in an old ice-cream-cone factory in a once-forgotten back alley, here it’s an ever-changing roster of burgeoning creatives showcasing their latest designs and wares – be it custom motorbikes fit for James Dean, idiosyncratic jewellery, ’zines, handmade chocolates or rare Turkish cinema posters. Each weekend has a different theme that gives an indication of the type of goods to be hawked. This is event-based shopping at its best; the market spills out onto the street and takes on a carnival-esque atmosphere.
