For a deeper, more lasting encounter with a different culture, nothing beats a cooking class. Istanbul Cooking School, which is centrally located close to the British Consulate, offers half-day courses either in small groups or private classes. You’ll start with a short walk through the historical and still thriving Cicek Pasaj (flower market) known for its meyhanes (raki and meze restaurants) and the Balik Pazar (fish market) before heading to owner Oguz Tuncbilek’s cosy kitchen studio. Here, you’ll learn how to prepare a five-course meal, including classics from Ottoman cuisine as well as delicious Turkish staples more common today. Courses are offered in English and German.
