A colourful stay in central Madrid, The Madrid EDITION isn’t just the cool kid on the Spanish capital’s luxury hotel scene – its buzzy rooftop terrace and cocktail bars are becoming hot haunts for well-heeled locals, too.
Where is The Madrid EDITION?
Located near the Puerta del Sol and about 30 minutes by car or train from Madrid-Barajas Airport, The Madrid EDITION hotel is as central as it gets. From here, it’s just a hop to the city’s historic landmarks, convivial plazas and greatest cultural hits.
What’s near The Madrid EDITION?
Food-lovers, fashionistas and culture-vultures will all find something to love within walking distance. There’s the gastronomic glory of San Miguel Market and Calle Cava Baja (Madrid’s famous tapas street), the lively Gran Vía, Plaza Mayor and grand Royal Palace, all just minutes away. The Golden Triangle of Art (the Prado Museum, Reina Sofía National Art Centre and Thyssen-Bornemisza Museum) and Botanic Gardens can be reached in 20 minutes by foot or faster via the Sol Metro station.
The Madrid EDITION has 177 rooms, 21 suites and two enormous penthouses (with private pools and garden terraces, no less), all designed in contemporary minimalist style. Options range from a superior king guestroom, to a one-bedroom suite with a terrace, a sunny loft room with courtyard views and interconnected rooms for families and groups of up to four. Even the entry-level room categories promise high-design furnishings and thoughtful accoutrements, including ample closet space, Le Labo toiletries and a Bang & Olufsen Bluetooth speaker.
Restaurants and bars
With three bars and two restaurants helmed by prestigious chefs who’ve appeared on the World’s 50 Best Restaurants list, The Madrid EDITION has plenty of in-house entertainment. Open for breakfast through to supper, Jerónimo, helmed by acclaimed Mexican chef Enrique Olvera (ex-Pujol), is a sunny place to start the day. On the ground floor, the hotel’s Lobby Bar is a lively hangout for people-watching and enjoying a game of pool on the Emmanuel Level Stenne table in a marble-dominated room designed by famed architect John Pawson. At sunset, Oroya, the rooftop pisco bar and Peruvian tapas restaurant, is the place to be. Come for the view, garden-party ambience and delicious fare by Diego Muñoz (Astrid y Gastón) and stay for the Pisco Sours. Sophisticated cocktail bar Punch Room, an EDITION hotel signature, can be found hidden away behind a door in the lobby.
Travel for work
In this highly social city, those seeking a quiet venue to catch up on work may find it tricky. But with large communal spaces and a wide range of quiet seating, The Madrid EDITION is a welcome haven for business travellers. Wi-Fi is free and fast and the hotel has a series of natural-light-filled meeting rooms (bookings required).
Spa and pool
The west-facing rooftop infinity pool is spectacular and reserved for guests only – it’s one of the largest in the city and boasts panoramic views across Madrid’s skyline. The on-site spa, complete with steam room, is open until 9pm and has a good range of full-body treatments, including the personalised Madrid Edition Massage – a salve for jet lag or a post-workout wind-down after a session in the hotel’s 24/7 gym.
