For every first Saturday in October since its creation in 2002, the city of Paris has stayed awake and taken to the streets for an all-night cultural festival in celebration of contemporary art. Installations pop up, performance art overtakes the boulevards, galleries and museums stay open until the wee hours and fireworks are set off from the Seine for the city’s annual “sleepless night”. The atmosphere is simply electric as the cobblestone streets that you have walked each day become a stage for one night only. The programme changes every year but it is a wonderful night to be in Paris and awake.
