La Cantine de Merci

If Colette is the definition of conceptual cool in Paris, then Merci could take the honours for that other elusive fashion term known as eclectic chic. The three-floor warehouse space, designed by architect Valérie Mazérat, merges designer fashion, accessories and homewares with the welcome addition of three cafes: the Used Book Café, Cinema Cafe and La Cantine – all of which are open until the store’s 6-ish closing time. The latter is also a clean-living respite, serving up fresh, seasonal dishes and fruit juices.
Location
The former Jewish quarter of the Marais is a melting pot of cool corners. Whether you are seeking art galleries, organic supermarkets, casual bistros to watch the passing fashionparade, or specialty artisanal stores – also note that the Marais is the only designer shopping district open on a Sunday – this arrondissement’s cobblestone streets posses style in spades.
