Embiggen Books

Fittingly located next to State Library Victoria and the Wheeler Centre – Melbourne’s home of books and writing – is this family-run independent bookshop, flourishing where others have failed. Warren Bonett and Kirsty Bruce read nearly everything that hits the shelves of their welcoming store, with its vintage lights and wooden ladders to get the treasure stashed up high. There’s a carefully selected collection of books on art and design, politics, science, travel and, of course, fiction, chairs in which to sit and mull your selection and an excellent events program of launches and lectures. AC Grayling and Nobel Prize winner Professor Doherty have both spoken in the store.
Location
Sitting at the top end of the CBD, this is easily accessible via the busy tram-line artery of Swanston Street just one block over. The Queen Victoria Market, Old Melbourne Gaol and the popular suburb of Carlton are not too far from here.
