Builders Arms Hotel

Once a faded local boozer, the revamped Builders Arms is one in a string of chef Andrew McConnell’s successful venues. Competition for the footpath tables on Gertrude Street is fierce, the front bar is the scene of many a long session and the bistro is a mixture of families celebrating birthdays, folks doing business over the roasted pork shoulder and friends who can’t go past it for never-fail fun and fine food. Out in the courtyard there’s a barbecue and rotisserie where the daily special – split chicken, lamb rump or perhaps whole ocean trout – is prepared.
Location
Fitzroy is packed with shops, bars and restaurants and just a short tram ride into the city. Brunswick Street is the most popular artery and nearby is equally as hip Collingwood.
