The best way to get to know a city in a short space of time is on two wheels. With a free bike loan scheme, Adelaide has taken this idea to heart. To get a bike, lock and helmet – a legal requirement for riding – simply present a valid driver's licence, passport or Australian proof of age card, held as a deposit for the duration of the hire and given back upon return.

Once on your bike, try the Park Lands trail for an easy, safe way to explore the city’s green belt of parklands, through historic West Terrace Cemetery, Himeji Gardens, Botanic Gardens, National Wine Centre of Australia, Adelaide Zoo and Old Adelaide Gaol.

There’s a shorter ride along the River Torrens Linear Park trail that moves through the Riverbank Precinct from Adelaide Zoo to Adelaide Festival Centre, Adelaide Oval and Adelaide Convention Centre. If you like riding with stops for coffee, food, beer and people watching, try the Adelaide City Bike Art Trail. Eleven large-scale sculptures are near to or incorporated into public bike racks, so you can stop and admire the art at Rundle Street, North Terrace, Hindley Street and more.

Locations for bike pick-up are scattered throughout the city at council and university buildings, kiosks, community centres, hostels and hotels.
