Gondolas of Noosa

Close your eyes and it could be Venice. Open them and the landscape is unmistakably Australian. By day, gondola trips on the Noosa River offer views of riverfront mansions and the bush along the Noosa Sound. But without doubt, a gondola excursion is most atmospheric at night when candlelight adds a romantic air. Your gondola is motorised, the music is piped, but your gondolier (who may be called Derek rather than Ricardo) is discreetly perched outside the cabin. Drinks are BYO but ice buckets (with ice) and glasses are provided. Not in the mood for a tête-à-tête? No problem. Simply invite some friends – the gondola’s red-cushioned seats are made for up to six.
