Eating alfresco should be de rigueur on the Gold Coast – the weather alone begs to be enjoyed morning, noon and night – and few places can claim an outdoor spot as delightful as that of Vie Bar + Restaurant. Overlooking the Broadwater (and the nearby marina of impressive yachts), Palazzo Versace’s in-house restaurant is not necessarily what you’d expect from the designer brand. This is not fine dining but the hotel has its award-winning degustation destination, Vanitas, for that. Instead, Vie is more chilled; you could say it’s Italian-by-way-of-Queensland. Flavours are gutsy, dishes are produce-driven and moreish, and the menu offers something for all types, carnivores to vegan. No doubt that’s why Vie has picked up its own share of awards. Come for a long lunch, a romantic dinner or even just for cocktails with friends: the bar is open from 5pm until late seven days a week, making it a prime spot to watch the sunset, just as the weather intended. Bookings are essential.
Main Beach is at the northern end of the Gold Coast, 3km from Surfers Paradise and 35 kilometres from Coolangatta airport. Marina Mirage, one of the area’s most prestigious shopping destinations, is just next door.
