Like its name, Black Coffee Lyrics is a bit of an oddity. The best way to describe it is speciality coffee culture meets modern dining meets tasty cocktails – all in a cool setting with exposed brick and a happening soundtrack. So far, so eclectic, right? There’s plenty on the menu to kick-start your weekend. At breakfast, hungry carnivores will head straight for The Boxer (steak, bacon, sausage, poached eggs and sides). Less, ahem, heart-straining options include homemade granola or smoked salmon and poached eggs with beetroot, goat’s cheese, spinach and multigrain. At night, don’t debate the merits of hale versus heartiness: let the chef guide you with the “degustation” menu. In truth, it’s more of a table sharing, tasting plate arrangement than a traditional degustation but it doesn’t really matter what you call it because it still comes with the associated culinary kicks. All up this place lives up to its idiosyncratic moniker – and in that way, it’s a blend of everything that’s good.

Location

Surfers Paradise is the beating heart of the Gold Coast – it’s a heady blend of soaring skyscrapers, glitzy boutiques and buzzing nightlife. It’s just over 30 minutes by car from Coolangatta airport and the Gold Coast light rail connects this area with nearby precincts like Southport and Broadbeach. Shopping, restaurants, theme parks and, of course, the beach are all within easy distance.
