NEXT Hotel is the reincarnation of the tired Chifley at Lennons, a 100-year-old hotel that had its most recent heyday in the 1980s. However, nothing about NEXT is dated – the hotel caters to the savvy business and leisure traveller alike with its slick tech approach. Dubbed a “smart hotel”, guests can download the NEXT app to use smartphones to check in, remotely adjust air-conditioning and order drinks. (You’ll have to actually use your hands to pick up one of your four complimentary drinks per day from the mini bar.) Each room comes with a Samsung Galaxy S4 mobile phone. At the top end of Queen Street Mall, NEXT is in the heart of the CBD and on the doorstep of retail, business and dining districts. While you might have to explore down an alleyway or two for better coffee, you needn’t go too far afield. A train connects the city to the airport via Central Station.
