As ferries back in and out of busy Circular Quay, this fine diner offers a room with a view of it all. A comfortable hum of happy diners sets the mood at this opulent space. Inspired by India’s grand havelis (mansions of architectural and cultural significance), The Spice Room has a stately, courtyard feel. The food is exotic but accessible – a fusion best showcased by perfectly executed street food morsels. Vindaloo, biryani and rogan josh all make an appearance on the menu, as do signature dishes such as the Railway goat curry and specials from the tandoor including spiced chicken tikka to a whole snapper served with a fragrant mint sauce. It’s a glimpse into the past with an eye firmly on the future.
