Sydney is home to many exceptional farmers’ markets which are the perfect place to sample fresh local produce. A great example is Eveleigh Market at Carriageworks, open every Saturday from 8am to 1pm. More than 70 stallholders sell organic produce, artisan breads, boutique wines and freshly cut flowers. Foodies can also rub shoulders with celebrity chefs, including Kylie Kwong, whose steamed pork wontons and vegetarian pancakes continually draw a crowd. Pick up a selection of Australian delicacies, including freshly harvested honey, herbal teas and organic macadamias. You’ll also have the chance to try a traditional Aussie meat pie.

Eveleigh Market operates a free weekend shuttle bus from Redfern and Erskineville stations. Arrive at the market in time for breakfast, then spend the afternoon perusing Redfern’s homewares shops and galleries.
