Stay at Macquarie Waters boutique hotel and you can turn up for breakfast at The Corner, their ground-floor cafe/restaurant, in your slippers, or do all three meals of the day here. Like The Stunned Mullet it is a much-loved local meeting place and venue for special-occasion meals. Its mid-town setting is far from flashy but the lack of pretension in the setting and the restaurant’s child-friendliness don’t preclude a real artistry in the food – share plates like barramundi goujons and lamb koftas with kasoundi and tzatziki make for cordial lunches, while for dinner, big-hitters include the chermoula-spiced chicken breast and the 250g black angus scotch fillet. Just be sure to leave room for the whiskey crème brulee.
