Despite being one of the newer additions, Marina Bay Sands has fast become an iconic addition to the Singapore skyline and is both a hotel and a destination in itself for shopping, dining and taking in views of the city. The rooftop of this architectural marvel is the size of three football fields and houses the world’s largest outdoor infinity pool. You’ll have to be a hotel guest to use the pool but the observation deck is open to all (and, predictably, is an extremely popular selfie spot).

Some of the best restaurants in Singapore are here, including Osteria Mozza by Mario Batali, Waku Ghin by Australia’s own Tetsuya Wakuda and the newly opened Bread Street Kitchen by Gordon Ramsay. It’s also a one-stop spot to get your retail therapy fix, with high-street brands alongside designer labels – Louis Vuitton’s “floating” island, which includes an art gallery with works by celebrities and prominent designers, is a must-see. In the way of accommodation, there are a wide variety of luxurious hotel rooms and suites  – book City View for guaranteed skyline views. There’s also an excellent vantage point from the treadmills at the Banyan Tree Fitness Club or your lounge chair by the SkyPark infinity pool (just be sure to get there early).

The Marina Bay area is a stone’s throw from key attractions like the Singapore Flyer and Gardens By The Bay, the Central Business District and shopping centres.
