Live among nomads in Mongolia
This Mongke Tengri camp in the Orkhon Valley gives travellers a taste of nomadic life. Begun as a polo club and family getaway for German Christopher Giercke and his wife, Enkhe Sanjaardorj (who grew up in this very valley), it opened to outsiders in 2015. Officially known as the Genghis Khan Retreat, the 20 spacious gers (yurts) are equipped with cashmere blankets, fine linen and wood stoves. Although there are few concessions to 21st-century life – not even electricity – you’ll adapt quickly to a timeless lifestyle.
