Amsterdam, Netherlands
Although the canal-striped city of Amsterdam was largely constructed in the 13th century, it’s almost as if it had modern bikes in mind. Following a bike boom in the 1970s, over 400 kilometres of dedicated cycle paths were created and now, nearly half of all journeys in the city take place on two wheels. Bike rental is readily available (with Central Station, Leidseplein and Dam Square being particular hubs) and costs around $13 (8€) per day.
