Australia Travel Deals, Experiences Star in G'Day USA Australia Week 2011

Tourism Australia, Qantas highlight why "There's nothing like Australia;" Great Aussie Sale spotlights stellar deals and destinations

Australia's travel industry, led by G'DAY USA Steering Committee members Tourism Australia and Qantas, are strengthening travel industry relationships and promoting why there is nothing like Australia with events targeted to the travel industry and a national sale for consumers timed to the eighth annual G'DAY USA, running January 15-29, 2011.

Australia on The Oprah Winfrey Show

At the same time as G'DAY USA, Australia will also be starring on television when "The Oprah Winfrey Show" airs four episodes recently filmed in Australia. The project, led by Tourism Australia, included flights provided by Qantas Airways and was supported by Australia's state and territory partners. With the spotlight on the country, there is no better time to show the world why there's nothing like Australia.

G'DAY USA Australia Week Consumer Kick-Off

Consumer tourism promotions began in Southern California with an Australia-themed area at the 22nd annual Palm Springs International Film Festival with destination-specific messages, the Great Aussie Sale and a trip giveaway with airfare provided by Qantas. The trip giveaway to one of Australia's great film festivals was promoted at the "Filmgoers Lounge" where attendees were treated to five Australian films along with a gala reception and screening of Peter Weir's new film, The Way Back.

Amazing Deals to Australia

Tourism Australia followed the film festival with the launch of the Great Aussie Sale, offering deals and offers which can be booked now through February 13 illustrating 'only in Australia' experiences available for a great price. Qantas Airways is offerings airfare from Los Angeles to Sydney, Melbourne or Brisbane for $449* each way based on round trip Economy travel, from Dallas/Fort Worth for $479* each way based on round trip Economy travel , and from New York from $549* each way based on round trip Economy travel. Additional G'DAY USA-timed promotions and events include+:

  • Tourism Australia and Qantas Airways' One Week Walkabout campaign continues, promoting there's nothing like a week in Australia with air and land deals from $1,675 and add-on Qantas Walkabout Pass for $59 targeted to West Coast travelers with limited time but interest in seeing as much of Australia as possible. The campaign includes a partnership with ABC including a half hour special airing on "Eye on LA," out-of-home digital billboard advertising and an online campaign.
  • Values for consumer travel including free hotel room nights, room upgrades, kids stay-and-eat free promotions, and up to $1,000 off offers adventure and family vacations are being offered in Flight Center/Liberty Travel consumer print advertising, online and in the storefronts of more than 161 travel agencies across the U.S. - including five of Liberty Travel's flagships stores which will feature a complete Australia takeover.
  • The tourism and travel partners also are targeting would-be Aussie vacationers with a complete Orbitz.com site take-over from January 18 to February 17 with value-add offers being featured on the home page, vacation pages and South Pacific sections.

Business-to-Business Events and Promotions

Tourism Australia, Qantas and Australian state and territory partners are also supplementing the national promotions with G'DAY USA-timed events designed to build both travel industry and media relationships in key target cities of Los Angeles, New York, Houston, Dallas and San Francisco.

A series of trade workshops and a road show hosted by Tourism Australia will take place in Los Angeles, Houston, Dallas and San Francisco including educational workshops and dinners for Business Development Managers and US Tour Operators Association (USTOA) members in Los Angeles, and Houston, in partnership with Frosch Travel and Qantas, travel agents will attend a workshop and the partners will host a wine reception for consumers.

Corporate meeting and incentive planners will mingle with Australia's best incentive products demonstrating how compelling and viable Australia is as a destination. Partners include Qantas and ID Australia in Los Angeles and San Francisco, and Pan Pacific in Dallas. Long considered a food-centric city, the San Francisco meetings and incentives event will also include a three-course menu designed by respected Sydney chef Mark Best, of the internationally-acclaimed Marque Restaurant.

Sydney chef Peter Gilmore from celebrated Quay restaurant will join Mark Best at events targeting media and VIP's at a Los Angeles food and wine dinner and also at a media event in New York hosted by Qantas Airways and Tourism New South Wales, celebrating Sydney's new brand campaign. Tourism Australia will also be courting top lifestyle, food and wine and travel media in San Francisco along with Qantas and state and territory partners.

Promoting the business of sports and premier golf destinations in Victoria and Tasmania, the Victoria and Tasmania CEO Golf Day featured an Ian Baker Finch golf clinic, panel discussions and day of golf.

G'DAY USA Australia Week 2011 is a joint initiative between the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade, Tourism Australia, Austrade, and Qantas Airways.
