Qantas Frequent Flyer and Commonwealth Bank Give Customers Direct Points Earning Power

Qantas Frequent Flyer and the Commonwealth Bank today announced that from 13 October members of the Commonwealth Bank (CBA) Award loyalty program would be able to earn Qantas Points direct into their account instead of transferring them on request.

Previously Commonwealth Awards members could only earn Qantas points by choosing to redeem their Commonwealth Awards points for Qantas points.

The Chief Executive Officer of the Qantas Frequent Flyer program, Simon Hickey said that under this new feature from CBA, once members of the CBA Awards program had opted in to the Qantas Frequent Flyer Direct option*, all points earned each month would be automatically transferred to the member's Qantas Frequent Flyer account.

Mr Hickey said that Commonwealth Awards program members who opted into Commonwealth Awards Qantas Frequent Flyer Direct would receive benefits that included:

* Platinum CBA Commonwealth Award customers earn 1 Qantas Frequent Flyer point for every $1 spent;
* Gold CBA Commonwealth Awards customers earn 1 Qantas points for every $1.50 spent;
* Classic CBA Commonwealth Awards customers earn 1 Qantas Frequent Flyer point for every $2 spent; and
* A simple and flexible enrolment process where Commonwealth Awards customers can opt in to Qantas Frequent Flyer Direct at any time and do not need to apply for a new card to continue to earn Qantas points.

"With this direct earn card feature, members can maximise the benefits of the Qantas Frequent Flyer program by seamlessly earning points on every day purchases and building points in their Qantas Frequent Flyer account.

"Members can accelerate their point earning to redeem their desired Qantas Frequent Flyer Awards sooner."

Mr Hickey said that Qantas members who were Commonwealth Awards members had the opportunity to earn Qantas points twice from the one transaction - once through making the payment on their card and once with other program partners when they presented their Qantas Frequent Flyer card at any of the program's 350-plus partners including airlines, cars, hotels, travel and travel services, retail and entertainment, finance, business and real estate.

Mr Hickey said members had an impressive array of reward choices that included Qantas and Partner Classic Awards and Qantas and Jetstar Any Seat Awards.

"The new Qantas Frequent Flyer program also gives members the choice of more than 1000 products including over 100 retail and travel vouchers from the Qantas Frequent Flyer Store," he said.

Commonwealth Awards customers who do not enrol in Qantas Frequent Flyer Direct will not be able to transfer points to Qantas Frequent Flyer after 31 March 2009. Customers can enrol in Qantas Frequent Flyer Direct by calling CBA between 8am and 8pm Monday to Friday on 13 16 61.
