Qantas Statement on Sydney Airport Master Plan
Sydney, 19 June 2009
Qantas said today it welcomed the Federal Government's approval of Sydney (Kingsford Smith) Airport's 2009 Master Plan.
Qantas Group Executive Government and Corporate Affairs, Mr David Epstein, said the approval would provide certainty around future development.
"We welcome the government's announcement," he said.
"Sydney Airport is Australia's principal aviation hub and will remain a key piece of infrastructure as far as the Qantas Group's operations are concerned.
"The airport can be made more efficient to support growth in the short to medium term and we will work cooperatively with Sydney Airport in this regard.
"It is timely to start now on looking at a site for a second airport in the Sydney basin to ensure that future international and domestic aviation growth opportunities can be realised.
"We look forward to participating in the study process announced today."
