Qantas Board Appointments

The Chairman of Qantas, Mr Leigh Clifford, today announced the appointment of two Directors to the Qantas Board.

Richard Goodmanson and Barbara Ward will each fill casual non-executive Director vacancies on the Qantas Board, with immediate effect.

Mr Clifford said: "My fellow Directors and I are pleased to welcome Directors of the calibre of Richard and Barbara to the Qantas Board.

"The considerable business skills and experience of both individuals, including in the aviation and transport industries, will add to the diversity of experience and corporate skill of the Board."

Mr Goodmanson has served as Executive Vice President & Chief Operating Officer of E.I. du Pont de Nemours and Company, Inc. since May 1999. From 1996 to 1999, he was President & Chief Executive Officer of America West Airlines. Mr Goodmanson was previously Senior Vice President of Operations for Frito-Lay Inc and was a principal at McKinsey & Company, Inc. Prior to that, he spent 10 years in heavy civil engineering project management, principally in Southeast Asia.

Mr Goodmanson serves on the boards of Rio Tinto plc and Rio Tinto Limited and is Past Chair of the United Way of Delaware. He is also an economic advisor to the Governor of Guangdong Province.

Mr Goodmanson was born in Australia and is a citizen of both Australia and the United States. He holds degrees in engineering, commerce, economics and business administration.

Ms Ward is currently Chairman of Country Energy (a New South Wales Government-owned energy services corporation), a non-executive director of Lion Nathan Limited and Multiplex Funds Management Limited, and a trustee of the Sydney Opera House Trust. She was formerly a director of the Commonwealth Bank of Australia, Multiplex Limited and Allco Finance Group Limited.

Ms Ward previously held roles as Chief Executive Officer of Ansett Worldwide Aviation Services, General Manager Finance at TNT Limited and as a Senior Ministerial Adviser. Ms Ward holds a Bachelor of Economics and a Master of Political Economy.
