Fees for Optional Services

If you wish to travel with more than the checked baggage allowance you can pre-purchase an Additional Baggage Allowance before you go, at lower rates than Airport Excess Baggage charges.

Pre-Purchased Additional Baggage Allowance

Additional Baggage Allowance is available for purchase from Manage Your Booking from 7 days up until 3 hours before the scheduled departure of the next Qantas operated flight* on your itinerary, provided you have not checked in for the flight at the airport. You can pay for Additional Baggage Allowance using credit or debit card or by redeeming Qantas Points.

Additional Baggage Allowance Charges

Additional baggage is charged at AUD105 per piece, up to 23 kilos per piece, for international long haul flights to/from The Americas.^

Note: a maximum weight of 32kg applies for each piece.

Log in as a frequent flyer, then go to 'Your Bookings' and select your booking for a points quote.

At the Airport

Once you have purchased your Additional Baggage Allowance you must print out your e-mail receipt and bring it with you when you check in at the airport as proof of purchase. A print out of the 'Manage Your Booking' page is not acceptable.

Visit Manage Your Booking to purchase an Additional Baggage Allowance.

Important Information on Additional Baggage Allowance

  • Read the Additional Baggage Allowance terms and conditions.
  • Refer to the schedule of fees for refund processing fees.
  • Refer to our Conditions of Carriage and Checked Baggage page for more information.
  • The carriage of baggage is subject to space being available. While we will use reasonable endeavours to carry baggage on the same flight as the passenger, there may be times when baggage will need to be transported on a later flight.
* Additional baggage allowance is not available in advance for flights operated by another carrier (such as codeshare or interline flights) or if connecting on the same-day to a flight operated by another airline.
^ The Americas means North and South America.

A Heavy Charge applies for each piece of checked baggage that exceeds the maximum weight per piece provided in the checked baggage allowance. In addition, if you have not pre-purchased sufficient Additional Baggage Allowance, a charge will apply at the airport for any pieces in excess of the checked baggage allowance. The carriage of baggage in excess of the baggage allowance is subject to space being available.

Charges for excess baggage will be applied at the airport as follows:

 Ticketed in Piece
International - to/from The Americas^USD150 per extra piece
USD50 heavy charge for each piece weighing over 23kg~

Note: No single item of Checked Baggage may exceed 32kg (70lb).
