Before booking and before you travel, ensure you check the latest airline and government travel requirements, which may include mandatory health declarations, vaccinations, pre-departure COVID-19 tests, use of face masks, entry permits, pre-approval and quarantine (possibly at your own expense), or you could be denied entry.

Australia: COVID-19 border restrictions to be lifted

The Australian GovernmentOpens external site in a new window has changed COVID-19 border restrictions, including:

  • Passengers travelling to Australia are no longer required to provide evidence of vaccination.
  • Unvaccinated visa holders aren't required to have a travel exemption.
  • Passengers aren't required to complete the Digital Passenger Declaration (DPD).
  • Passengers departing Australia aren't required to provide evidence of their vaccination status.

Note:

  • If you're booked to travel on a Qantas aircraft and travelling on an international flight, you'll need to be fully vaccinated at the time of travel, and provide proof of vaccination at check-in. Read more on Qantas' vaccination requirements for travel.
  • Some countries require passengers to be fully vaccinated before travel. Check the government requirements for all countries that you're travelling to or transitting through to ensure you meet their vaccination requirements.
  • The Australian Government has advised masks are still required to be worn on flights to Australia.

New Zealand: Removal of pre-departure testing

The New Zealand GovernmentOpens external site in a new window has announced the removal of COVID-19 pre-departure tests. This applies to people entering New Zealand from anywhere in the world.

Additionally, passengers transiting through New Zealand will no longer need to be vaccinated or complete the New Zealand Traveller Declaration.

You must still ensure you meet Qantas' requirements for travel.

USA: Updated pre-departure requirements

The Centers of Disease Control and ProtectionOpens external site in a new window (CDC) has announced the removal of pre-departure COVID-19 testing for passengers flying to the United States. 

Additionally, US Citizens, lawful permanent residents and immigrants are no longer required to complete the Passenger Attestation.

You must still ensure you meet Qantas' requirements for travel.

Australia: travel to Lord Howe Island

Lord Howe Island is home to many unique and endemic species, some of which are found nowhere else in the world.

To ensure this unique ecosystem remains protected, if you're travelling to Lord Howe Island, you're required to complete a biosecurity pre-departure formOpens external site in a new window, and remove or declare any animal or plant matter.
