Marseille travel information

Harbour view of boats in port Marseille

Marseille is a diverse city, packed with history, culture, museums, classic French architecture, backdropped by the white limestone cliffs of the Clanques. The hub of Marseille is the colourful Vieux-Port and a harbour filled with yachts and many seafood restaurants and is the perfect place to relax. Immerse yourself in local life with a wander through Marseille’s busy streets, including along the famous La Canebière, a tree lined avenue filled with hotels, shops, and restaurants. The city has a mix of vibrant sounds, smells and sights - unlike any other place in France.

When to visit

Marseille has a Mediterranean climate with hot sunny weather though most of the year and mild winters. The best time to visit is in summer (June to September) when the city comes alive with dance, music and food events. Temperatures in summer average around 28–30 °C, making it a good time to relax at the Pages du Prado beach and enjoy the waterside cafes.
