Visiting from Bangkok to Cagliari

Catania travel information

Catania is an ancient port city on Sicily's east coast, on the Ionion Sea. It sits under Mt. Etna, an active volcano with trails leading up to the summit. The city's wide central square, Piazza del Duomo, features the magnificent Fontana dell'Elefante statue and richly decorated Catania Cathedral. From Catania Cathedral is the monastery of San Nicolò l’Arena, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. In the southwest corner of the square, La Pescheria weekday fish market is a rowdy spectacle surrounded by seafood restaurants. Be sure to visit the Palazzo Biscario to experience the most beautiful example of Catanese baroque architecture and the kiosks of Catania for a refreshment. No visit is complete without tasting arancino, pasta alla norma and soft fried custard pastries.

When to visit

Best time to visit Catania

The best time to visit Catania is late spring (April to June) as it's not the height of peak travel season, making it an ideal time to see the sights. The warmest month of the year in Catania is August, where the average temperature gets to around 32℃, but temperatures can reach as high as 34℃. The days are longest in Catania are in July, so if you want to see the sights during the day when the sun is up for the longest time, it’s best to visit around that time of year. September is also a lovely time to visit, as it’s not too hot with an average temperature of 24℃.
