Visiting from Bangkok to Bologna

Bologna city view

Bologna is the lively, elegant, historic capital of the Emilia-Romagna region, in northern Italy. It's a city of two intriguing halves. One side is a hardworking, tech city located in the rich Po Valley, with regal theatres, opera-goers and top restaurants. The other, is an edgy city with the world's oldest university, piazzas and fashion stores. Its Piazza Maggiore is a big plaza lined with arched colonnades, cafes and medieval and Renaissance structures such as City Hall, the Fountain of Neptune and the Basilica di San Petronio. It has a rich cuisine, so be sure to taste pasta ragu, a Bologna sandwich or drink an aperol spritz. No visit is complete without visiting the top attractions, Basilica di Santo Stefano, Torre degli Asinelli leaning tower and the Quadrilatero for its market stalls, happening cafes and gourmet delis.

When to visit

The best time to visit Bologna is in spring (April through to June) when the weather is not too hot, making it the perfect time to see the attractions. The average temperature during spring is between 17°C to 27°C. September is also a lovely time to visit with many food and wine festivals including the Prosciutto di Parma and Coppa Festivals. The average temperatures is 25°C. Summer (July and August) are particularly hot and humid, reaching 30°C. Though if you plan to visit during this time you can catch the outdoor film festival held in the magical Piazza Maggiore.
