When to visit
The best time to go to Gran Canaria is in the summer when you’ll get lots of warm and sunny weather. The island is just 150km from North Africa’s west coast, which means the region enjoys a very hot and dry climate all year-round. Between June and September is the warmest time of the year with highs of 28°C. For slightly cooler temperatures, the best time to visit Gran Canaria is in the winter. December has an average temperature of 22°C with warm winds blowing in from across the Sahara Desert. The sea is mild for most of the year and rarely drops below 22°C.

Getting into Gran Canaria from Gran Canaria Airport
Getting into Grand Canaria is easy, with a range of transport options to suit your needs. Choose from bus, taxi, hotel shuttle, private transfer or car hire. Taxi is the fastest way to reach Las Palmas, and you can get to the city centre in 20 minutes. The taxi rank is located on the in the ground level of the arrivals area. Bus is a convenient option with services running every 20 minutes. Bus route 1 runs between the airport, Las Palmas and the tourist area of Puerto de Mogán. It's possible to organise a private transfer for door to door service, or check with your hotel to organise a shuttle. If you wish to rent a car, car rental companies are available at the airport and you can choose one that suits your needs to explore the beautiful parts of the island.
Getting around Gran Canaria
Getting around in Grand Canaria is easy, with different types of transport available to suit your needs. The simplest way is by walking, if you're staying in a hotel near the sea, the beach is close by. Walking is a good way to explore Las Palmas, especially the narrow stone streets of historic Vegueta, where you’ll find many museums, bars and restaurants as well as a craft market on Sundays. To move further around the island bus is a good option to visit different sites such as Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, Maspalomas and Playa del Inglés. Taxis are a good option, as they are not too expensive and easy to find on the street. Bike is a good way to explore, there are 11 kilometres of bike lanes and many companies offering bike rentals. Hiring a rental car for your holiday is a good option. This is a fast and comfortable way to get around Gran Canaria. Alternatively, you may wish to join a tour.
