When to visit
Christchurch – known as “the garden city,” has a temperate climate. Spring (September to November) is the best time to take in the gardens and parks while they are in full bloom. The ski season is coming to an end with the Southern Alps and mountains are majestic with their snow covering. Temperatures range between 14°C to 19°C. Wintertime is June through to September brings snow and attracts skiers from far and wide, with temperatures between 11°C and 14°C. Summer (December to February) is a busy time to visit with holiday makers and the school holidays.

Christchurch Airport (CHC).Opens in a new tab or window The airport is located about 12 kilometres north west of the city centre, it’s the main airport that serves Christchurch. There are shops, WiFi and charging services, ATM's and airline lounges available at the airport.

Getting into Christchurch from the airport
With a range of convenient parking and transport options, getting to and from the airport is easy. From bicycles to buses, campervans, rideshare and rental cars are all available at the terminal. A bus service from the airport to the city takes approximately 35 minutes or a shuttle service is $19 for one person. There are several taxi companies from the airport getting into the CBD in around 20 minutes.
Getting around Christchurch
With so many things to do and spectacular places to see, choosing how you travel around Christchurch is easy and affordable, with many transport options available. The best way to get around via is road, so hiring a car or motorhome is a great option. To see whales, orcas and dolphins hop on a boat, or catch the Christchurch Gondola to capture the sights below. There are many tours available including by helicopter, shuttle and bus services. It’s easy to hire a bike or walk around the city to experience the best of the region.
