Visiting from Singapore to Munich

When to visit

Munich has reasonably warm summers, with plenty of sunshine in July and August and average temperatures around 17.5°C. The months of May, June and September have pleasant temperatures too. The best time to visit Munich is at the end of September to join in Oktoberfest. The average temperature is around 15°C. Winter is a lovely time to visit to ski in the Alps and enjoy the Christmas markets. It's very cold, so be sure to pack warm clothes.

Munich Airport (MUC).Opens in a new tab or window It is an international airport serving Upper Bavaria, Germany. The airport is located 28.5 km northeast of Munich near the town of Freising.

Arriving in Munich

When your flight arrives on Munich you’ll be welcomed by the staff the airport to get your visit off to the right start. 

Getting into Munich from Munich Airport 

For a relaxed start to get into Munich from the airport, choose from train, bus, taxi, transfer services, rental cars, car sharing or Uber. Travelling by train is an easy way to reach Hamburg city centre. The S1 and S8 S-Bahn lines connect the airport to Munich city centre at 10-minute intervals, and a trip to the main train station takes approximately 40 minutes. The Lufthansa Express Bus is the nonstop connection from Munich Airport into the city centre, with services every 20 minutes and the journey time is 45 minutes. Flixbus long distance buses connect the airport with multiple destinations in Germany and Europe. By taxi, the approximate travel time to Munich city centre is 40 minutes. Taxis stands are located out the front of both terminals, you may like to request an Uber or book a limousine. You can rent a car or use the affordable car sharing service they are located at Terminal 2.

Getting around Munich

Getting around in Munich is smooth and easy as the city features a sophisticated public transport system, along with roads well laid out and the autobahns. Public transport in Munich is made up of buses, trams, U-Bahn and S-Bahn trains, which provide efficient ways to travel around. Trains are the fastest mode of transport, are comfortable, easy to use and operate at regular intervals. Buses are less frequent than trains, though it’s a good way to see more of the city. Trams are another option for travelling around in Munich and good for short distances. The tram network covers a fairly large area. Taxis can be found throughout the city centre, at designated taxi ranks and hailed in the street. Ride share services Uber and Free Now are also a super convenient ways to get around, just download the app. Cycling is one of the best ways to get around the city with bike trails and cycle lanes and bike rental outlets scattered through the city. It's possible to hire a car, but with the excellent public transport you may not need to, or you can join a tour.
