Arrival information

What is the main airport called?

Bucharest Airport (OTP). Officially known as Bucharest Henri Coandă International Airport. It is Romania's busiest international airport, located in Otopeni, 16.5 km north of Bucharest's city centre.

Arriving in Bucharest

The friendly staff at Bucharest Airport will greet you when you land and assist you with your travel needs. Once you collect your bags from the arrivals area, there are various transport options available to get you on your way.

Getting into Bucharest from Bucharest Airport

There are various convenient transport options available at Bucharest Airport, making travelling into the city centre easy. Choose from bus, train, taxi, hotel transfer or car hire. By bus, take the 780 express bus to Gara de Nord, the main railway station with a trip time of 45 minutes. The 783 express bus connects Bucharest Airport with the city centre. The line runs frequently during the day and night. By train, an airport rail link service to the main railway station, Gara de Nord (Bucharest North), runs from the airport railway station located near the parking lot of the arrivals hall. Trains depart every 40 minutes, and a one-way trip takes 20 to 25 minutes. Taxis are available with the ranks located at the exit of the main terminal and takes about 30 minutes to reach the city centre. It's possible to rent a car and drive on the motorway to the city.

Getting around Bucharest

Getting around Bucharest is easy, with a range of transport options to suit your needs. Choose from public transport, taxis, ride-share, walking, bike or join a tour. Public transport options include the metro, which is the best way to get around the city centre. The metro has four lines and over 50 stations and is reliable. Stations are indicated by white sights with a blue "M". Buses (autobus), trams (tramvai) and trolley buses operate through the city. Tickets can be used on all three modes of transport. Yellow taxis are available, though for travellers it's best to book a taxi through the ride-share app so you don’t get over charged. It's possible to rent a car with major car companies available in the city, though the roads can be confusing, and Romanians drive fast, so you best to stick to the metro or Uber. There are several bicycle shops across the city including La Pedale, along with bike-sharing apps, that make a fun way to get around Bucharest.
