Our people
Our commitment to people, culture and leadership.
Our approach
Our Qantas Group Behaviours - Responsible, Respectful, Resilient set the standard for how we do things every day.
The Behaviours are built on what makes us unique, sets us apart and provide common language to guide expectations of ourselves and others.
They are incorporated into all parts of the employee life cycle and are integral to how we onboard, recognise, give feedback on performance and ensure our ongoing commitment to safety.
These behaviours support our people to be and do their best in a safe and inclusive culture.
Inclusion and Diversity
We believe that inclusion is everyone’s business and that inclusion and belonging are fundamental to our strength and success.
Our people’s diverse lived experience helps us to understand our customers, make better decisions and get things done safely. Our aim is to provide a psychologically safe and inclusive environment where our people feel respected, supported and a genuine sense of belonging.
In 2025, we launched our Inclusion and Belonging Strategy to enable our people to champion the Spirit of Australia with a safe and inclusive culture. This strategy builds upon the work delivered under the Group’s 2021–2024 Inclusion and Diversity Strategy.
Implementation is driven by all leaders, with the support of the Inclusion and Belonging team together with Employee Resource Groups such as Altitude, Illuminate, Enabled, Daramu and Veterans Network.
Across the Group, we work with partner organisations including Champions of Change Coalition, Chief Executive Women, Reconciliation Australia, Australian Disability Network, Asian Leadership Project, Parents at Work, Circle In, and Pride and Diversity to help support our long-term commitments.
We have a solid foundation of Inclusion and Belonging and have been broadening our focus to better reflect who we are as an organisation.
Our People Metrics are reported in the 2025 Sustainability Report
Key focus areas
Everyday Respect and Inclusion
We believe creating a workplace where everyone feels included, valued and psychologically safe is at the heart of the Qantas Group experience. Everyday Respect is part of how we operate, our approach to total safety, culture and leadership to support our people to feel safe, included and like they belong.
Gender balance
Qantas continues its long-term commitment to challenging stereotypes and ensuring merit-based gender diversity in aviation. Commencing Financial Year 2024/25, the Group’s three-year measurable target for gender balance at senior leadership aligns to the 40:40 methodology. The Group has made progress on our gender target, reaching 40.7 per cent representation of women in senior leadership.
We continue to focus on three key levers to improve representation of women in senior leadership; external hires, internal promotions and preventing attrition. Notably, 60 per cent of external appointments into senior roles were female talent and female exits from senior roles were lower than male peers.
Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander careers
As Australia's national carrier, we have a clear role to play when it comes to reconciliation. We proudly advance this through the Qantas Group First Nations Strategy vision: to create a shared national identity that celebrates the knowledge and cultures of First Nations Peoples. The Qantas Group First Nations Strategy guides our overall approach and is brought to life through the Qantas Group Reconciliation Action Plan (RAP). Find out more about our vision for reconciliation
Sustainable, meaningful careers are critical to our vision for reconciliation. We aim to build on our long, proud history of engaging with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples by providing First Nations representation, leadership, and engagement opportunities across the Qantas Group. LGBTQI+ inclusion
Qantas has a long history of supporting the LGBTQI+ community. We recognise the challenges faced by our people who identify as LGBTQI+ and are committed to creating an inclusive environment, regardless of gender identity, gender expression, sexuality, or intersex status.
For the second year Qantas was recognised as a Gold Employer at the Annual Australian Workplace Equality Index (AWEI) Awards.
AWEI is a national benchmark for LGBTQI+ inclusion and serves as a really positive indicator to the market (employees and prospective candidates) that we have a positive level of LGBTQI+ inclusion.

Supporting trans and gender-diverse candidates
We understand the unique challenges and concerns trans and gender-diverse individuals may experience through a recruitment journey. You can contact the Illuminate and Inclusion and Diversity Team at Qantas with any questions regarding the recruitment process at illuminate.careers@qantas.com.au All communications are confidential and handled with the utmost sensitivity.
Access and inclusion
The Qantas Group’s Access and Inclusion Plan outlines our commitment to accessibility and inclusion for our customers and employees with disability as well as the broader community. Read our Access and Inclusion Plan to see our ongoing commitment.
Cultural diversity
We embrace all cultures and languages, and the new perspectives and insights they provide. We're building cross-cultural awareness for our people and have launched culturally inclusive service training for customer-facing frontline employees.
Life ages and stages
We support our people to do their best work at any time in their lives through identifying and removing barriers at all ages and stages. We offer parental leave support through Our Little Joeys program, including bi-annual Keeping You Connected events and return to work coaching.
Our Veterans/Defence Employee Resource Group plays an important role in supporting veterans and defence families across the Group, including through days of commemoration.
