The bright lights and take-no-prisoners approach to partying has earned this town the moniker of entertainment capital of the world.
It’s been the setting for many an unravelling – the Hangover and Casino films, William Burroughs and Hunter S Thompson to name a few – but this former watering hole for Spanish Mexican explorers keeps drawing them back like moths to a flame.
Everything is done to excess from the celebrity studded restaurants to sprawling 24 hour factory shopping to the mega star mega shows. It’s fabulously, staggeringly, excessively over the top. And when you can’t take one more second, hit the road for the bright blue skies and purple sunset of the eerily beautiful Mojave Desert.
Need some inspiration on what to do? Here are some of the top things to do in and around Las Vegas.
- Hit the factory outlets for some serious Vegas style shopping, some open 24 hours a day
- Drive out and see the Grand Canyon National ParkOpens external site in a new window, one of the seven wonders of the world and only three hours from Vegas
- Get married Hollywood style in a white chapel - most hotels have their own chapel to say the big 'I do'
- Discover the virtuous side of Vegas in one of the city’s excellent spas such as the Canyon Ranch SpaOpens external site in a new window at the Venetian and the Palazzo
- Supersize your shopping experience at jaw dropping 636,000 square foot Forum ShopsOpens external site in a new window at Caesar’s Palace.

The unincorporated town of Paradise is where it’s at – the Bellagio, Venetian, Mirage, Caesars Palace, MGM Grand – and the connecting backbone; the 'Strip' or Las Vegas Boulevard. Think the glammed up girls of Casino, the frat boys of the Hangover and little old ladies on the slots. They’re all here and in neon. The strip is just over six kilometres in length and features wide sidewalks, however be aware that certain parts, like out the front of Bellagio, can get very congested.
From the airport
Get to your hotel easily via in an airport shuttle or glam it up in a private Luxury Limousine Transfer. You can also get into town using a taxi or a convenient arrival transferOpens external site in a new window.
